Beaked Hazelnut

Beaked Hazelnut

Corylus cornuta

An attractive shrub for a woodland or edible garden. Early catkins give way to edible nuts encased in a fuzzy capsule. Its oval leaves, with double saw-toothed margins, turn vibrant yellow in fall. Nuts are dispersed and hidden by squirrels and birds; it is more disease-resistant than a filbert. Two or more shrubs are needed for adequate nut production.
