Wild strawberry is a low, ground-hugging native perennial that spreads by runners to form dense patches, producing clusters of white, yellow-centred flowers in spring followed by small but intensely sweet edible berries. Its fall foliage turns attractive shades of maroon and red, extending its ornamental value beyond the fruiting season, and it makes an excellent edible groundcover for sunny to partly shaded beds.
