Allium cernuum - Native Nodding Onion

Allium cernuum

Nodding onion is a widespread North American native prized for its distinctive down-turned flower umbels, which crook sharply at the top of the stem so the pink to lilac blossoms nod above the grassy foliage. It thrives in dry to moist prairies, open woods, and rocky slopes, and its open bell-shaped flowers are especially attractive to small native bees. The bulbs, leaves, and flowers are all edible with a mild onion flavour, making it a useful addition to native and edible landscapes alike.
