Giganteus Miscanthus × giganteus (commonly known as Giant Miscanthus or Giant Silver Grass) is a towering, sterile hybrid perennial grass widely prized for both residential privacy screening and commercial biofuel production. Formed by crossing Miscanthus sinensis and Miscanthus sacchariflorus, this cold-hardy plant can surge from the ground to heights of 9 to 13 feet (3 to 4 metres) in a single growing season once established. Because it is a triploid hybrid, it produces sterile seeds, meaning it will not spread uncontrollably or become an invasive threat to local ecosystems like some of its parent strains.
