Small tree or large shrub, often multi-trunked, that grows up to 15 feet tall. Habitat is moist, open areas in the sub-alpine zone, avalanche tracks, and burned areas. Good for erosion control. Adds to soil fertility by adding organic matter and nitrogen from bacteria on root nodules.
