Blue Elderberry
Sambucus cerulea
A large branchy shrub to 20ft tall, with clusters white flowers bearing black-blue berries that are a favourite of local and migrating birds. Elderberry can be found growing in a variety of different soil/moisture levels once established. It can handle permanently moist soil near streams and rivers and will flourish next to regularly irrigated areas. Once established, it also grows well in fairly dry soils, though it may prematurely loose its leaves.
